There's a particular feeling you get in the Nilgiris — a sense that you've slowed down to the right speed, that the cool air, the quiet, and the smell of wood smoke are things you somehow already knew. Reuben's Stays was built around that feeling. These are not hotels. These are our family homes. And from the moment you arrive, they feel exactly like that.

We offer two homes in these hills. Serenity sits at the heart of Ooty — a spacious bungalow with a private lawn, mountain views, and a fireplace that pulls everyone in by evening. Colonial lies 8.5 km into the hillside at Kalhatty — a preserved British-era home with open land, morning birdsong, and nights that end around a bonfire under an open sky.

Both come with an on-site caretaker, home-cooked meals on request, and nine years of knowing how to make a guest feel they belong. The Nilgiris will do the rest.

The Space

Serenity is our flagship home — a spacious, welcoming bungalow at the entrance to Ooty town. Four beautifully appointed bedrooms (3 Queen + 1 King) make it ideal for large families, friend groups, or a relaxed corporate retreat. The wide front lawn is a favourite spot — adults settle in with tea while children run freely within the compound.

Every room has an attached bathroom with hot water. The fully equipped kitchen lets you cook your own meals, while the comfortable living area — complete with a TV and a cosy fireplace — becomes the natural gathering spot for evenings. Our on-site caretaker ensures everything runs smoothly from the moment you arrive.

The Space

Colonial is our most unique offering — a lovingly preserved former British family residence set deep in the Nilgiris. Three spacious bedrooms (2 King + 2 Single) retain the character and charm of the original home while offering every modern comfort. An intimate retreat for families or groups seeking something truly different.

Eight kilometres from Ooty's town, the property sits amid open Nilgiri landscape. Here, evenings are best spent around a bonfire under clear skies, and mornings begin with birdsong. Our on-site caretaker is always on hand, and home-cooked meals can be arranged with a few hours' notice.

Good to Know

Home-Cooked Meals

Order fresh home-cooked meals through our caretaker. Please give 4 hours' notice for lunch, dinner, and BBQ. Charges are minimal and as per order.

Pack Warm Layers

The Nilgiris get considerably cooler in the evenings and nights, especially at Colonial. Bring warm clothing — you'll thank yourself.

Plastic-Free Zone

Plastic is banned across the entire Nilgiris district. Please carry responsibly and help us protect this fragile, beautiful ecosystem.

Driver Accommodation

For longer stays, we provide separate accommodation for your driver so they can rest and freshen up comfortably.
